Don't keep pressing the opener button and don't force the door. If you need the car out, first make sure the door is fully closed, then pull the red emergency release cord down and toward the opener and lift the door by hand. If it feels normal (10-15 lbs), the problem is the opener. If it is extremely heavy (100+ lbs), a spring is broken: stop and call. Never pull the release while the door is partly open with a broken spring, because nothing will hold it up.
